Assessment Outcomes 2 and 3 Russell Taylor

Assessment Outcome 2 Set-up an operational computer system with a range of computer hardware Practical & Theoretical – 3 tasks broken down into parts (19 parts in total) Students record progress and outcome on a log sheet Assessor (Lecturer) confirms satisfactory completion of tasks

Tasks Task 1: Set-up a basic stand alone computer system safely, including testing the system Unit, monitor, keyboard and mouse Task 2: Safely attach and test additional peripheral devices to the system Task 3: Identify various types and functionality of ports such as PS2, USB, Audio and 10/100 Mb Ethernet ports

More Details Correctly diagnose and document faults with the computer system and hardware Undertake remedial action to resolve the faults diagnosed above Be aware of the Health & Safety issues arising from setting-up and testing computer systems including cabling practices handling of electronic components and electrical safety

Assessment Outcome 3 Maintain and upgrade an existing computer system Practical & Theoretical – 3 main tasks broken down into parts (18 parts in total) Students record progress and outcome on a log sheet Assessor (Lecturer) confirms satisfactory completion of tasks

Outcome 3: Task 1 Perform basic maintenance and house-keeping procedures correctly and safely including: Cleaning routines External cable and plug checks Internal visual inspection of system unit components to check cable connections, and that cards are seated properly in slots Replacement of internal batteries Use of diagnostic software relating to system performance Secondary storage house-keeping

Outcome 3: Task 2 Install & maintain motherboard components such as: expansion cards memory modules and CPU in order to upgrade an existing computer system with emphasis on hardware compatibility

Outcome 3: Task 3 Install a secondary storage device such as a hard drive or an optical drive Diagnose any problems that might be associated with installing such devices Identify techniques to resolve any problems encountered
