What is NMUN? NMUN brings together students from across the world to simulate sessions of United Nations bodies (UNSC, GA, ECOSOC, HRC, UNICEF, etc.). Students represent a country and advance its foreign policy, as they debate the issues and find solutions to the crises that face the world today. NMUN covers a variety of subject matter, from development to environment to international law and security. From MDGs to child soldiers to nuclear proliferation. See:

Course Description The Model United Nations course is worth 3 credits. SCS3100 A will cover a variety of subject matter: –The UN organization and rules of procedures –In-depth knowledge of selected country –International law, foreign policy, human rights, development, etc. –Public speaking, resolution writing, negotiation skills –Independent research, critical and original analysis The solutions to the world’s problems are yours to find, defend, and negotiate as diplomats!

Logistics Transportation –Travel by Greyhound bus –Arrive March 26 –Meeting in NYC at the hotel, time to be determined Accommodations: 3-4 students per room Dress Code: –Students must wear proper business attire during the conference Schedule –SCS3100 A will be held every Wednesday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in SMD 402.

Cost Students pay approximately $1,200 for the course This includes: –Participation to the QMUN (transportation + accommodations) –Transportation to and from NYC (bus) –Hotel accommodation in NYC (Sheraton or Hilton) –Delegate fee and medical insurance Not included: –Food (approx. $60 USD p/d) –Personal expenses (sightseeing, souvenirs, etc.)

Eligibility Criteria Candidates must meet certain requirements: –Be registered full-time in an undergraduate program during the academic year –Have completed a minimum of 54 credits at the time they submit their candidacy –Be able to speak fluently in English –Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 6.0 –Be able to participate in a 6 hour preparatory meeting in November 2015 –Be able to participate in the preparatory QMUN conference and in the National Model United Nations conference in New York –Be able to travel legally to the United States Additional assets include: –Knowledge of international relations, foreign policy and international law –MUN experience –Ability to defend ideas in public Application process: –Submit your candidacy no later than October 9, 2015 to Graciela Dancose (FSS 3001F) –Those admitted into the course will receive an in early November To apply you must complete the application form (available online)available online –Along with your application form, you must include a resume (curriculum vitae), a letter of intent (500 words maximum), and your CGPA (no need to submit your transcript) –Registration for this course is NOT possible through Rabaska
