 When wondering about causes, you are looking for answers about why something happens  When looking at effects, you better understand the results that follow a certain cause Looking at causes and effects helps us to make sense of the world around us!

 Cause – an action or event that makes something else happen  Effect – the result of a cause  Cause & Effect articles explain › Why or how one thing leads to another › What happens as a result of a certain action or event

 Use Clue Words! › Affect, because, consequently, effect, leads to, results in, as a result › Examples: Brushing your teeth regularly leads to good oral hygiene. Most students don’t get a full night’s sleep. Consequently, they are tired and not alert during school the next day.
