GALILEO OPPORTUNITIES Viktoras Mongirdas Mokslo, inovacijų ir technologijų agentūra ESNC Lithuania kick-off Vilnius,

GALILEO PROGRAMME EGNOS European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service. Joint EC, ESA ir Eurocontrol project augmenting GPS ir GLONASS systems and enhancing their precision. Consists of 3 satelites ir additional ground stations. EDAS EGNOS Data Access Service GalileoEurope’s global navigation satellite system GNSS Global navigation satellite system GNSS = Galileo + EGNOS  European independence  Under civilian control  Interoperable with GPS and GLONASS  Offering several signal enhancements  Better coverage at high latitudes Whole new and virtually limitless range of ‘reliability- critical' services, applications and business opportunities EC estimates that 6-7% of European GDP – around 800 billion by value – is already dependent on satellite navigation

GALILEO IMPLEMENTATION PLAN EC together with ESA initiated the procurement of Galileo GNSS EU – owner European GNSS Agency – exploitation ESA - deployment Definition Development and validation 2000 Deployment Operation & maintenance 2005 / / / 2017 budget for is MEUR, FP7 share 400 MEUR budget for 2014 – 2020: EC proposes 7000 MEUR guarantee the completion of Galileo GNSS infrastructure and to ensure the exploitation of the systems

GALILEO SERVICES EGNOS (certified March, 2011) G a l i l e o Open service OS combination of open signals, free of user charge, and provides position and timing performance competitive with other GNSS systems. Commercial Service CS access to two additional signals, to allow for a higher data throughput rate and to enable users to improve accuracy, signals are encrypted, service guarantee. Safety of Life Service SoL OS + provision of timely warnings to the user when it fails to meet certain margins of accuracy (integrity) and service guarantee. Public Regulated Service PRS position and timing to specific users requiring a high continuity of service, with controlled access. Search and Rescue Service SAR Real time, high accuracy, high continuity, compatible with COSPAS-SARSAT.

GALILEO GNSS R&D in FP7

GALILEO APPLICATIONS COMMERCIALIZATION The application or a part of an application that can be integrated rapidly in an existing application. GNSS should be used as the primary positioning technology in the application and positioning should be a key enabler of the application. The application should be innovative. The project should conduct research that goes beyond the current state of the art or apply available technology in an innovative way. Applicants should have a clear intention to commercialise the project results as demonstrated by a realistic business plan. This can include commercialisation towards public authorities and governmental users. The project should contribute to the adoption of Galileo, EGNOS or EDAS e.g., early Galileo signals are used, EGNOS or EDAS technologies are applied in new ways, the application leads to an increased understanding of the market or user requirements in fields that are particularly relevant for Galileo

GALILEO LBS APPLICATIONS Interest towards applications involving high volume transmittions  Mobility applications Navigation Travel info Location based billing  Emergency applications E112 emergency services People tracking Disabled people/children mobility  E-commerce applications Advertising & shopping bussines  Entertainment applications Virtual Community and dating service basing on physical location

GALILEO ROAD TRANSPORT APPLICATIONS

GALILEO – OTHER APPLICATIONS

GALILEO – BUILD SUCCESSFUL MARKET

GALILEO OPPORTUNITIES - CONCLUSIONS  Galileo improved accuracy, integrity and authentication of the signal will allow to trigger a massive wave of new applications in key downstream markets  Galileo is likely to have a pivotal role in the development of both the upstream and downstream European GNSS based industry: - The total market will be worth c. €300bn in LBS and Road GNSS revenues are expected to grow strongly in the next future - Besides LBS and Road, great market opportunities are likely to arise in other segments, such as Aviation, Rail, Maritime and Emergency Services  Galileo will bring strong benefits to Europe, increasing the competitiveness of the European industry, improving the quality and the number of product/ services available to users and having a positive impact on key social aspects (e.g., employment, safety, pollution) The time to act to build a successful European GNSS industry is now
