Programme for the Enhancement of Research Information (PERI) The immediate objectives of the programme are to:  facilitate the acquisition of international information and knowledge through electronic Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs);  strengthen and develop national and regional journals as a medium for the dissemination of local information and knowledge  provide awareness or training in the use and/or evaluation of electronic information and communication technologies (ICT);  enhance skills in the preparation, production andmanagement of journals.

The objectives are met through:  Procurement of international and regional on-line databases, full-text journals and document delivery;  Involvement of partners in OnLine programmes;  ICT related Workshops - ‘Using the Internet’; ‘Evaluation of Online Information’  Workshops for journal editors, managers and typesetters to support them in moving to a fully electronic environment Programme for the Enhancement of Research Information (PERI)

To encourage each journal to determine its preferred methodology of going online. 3. To provide each journal with advice and financial support in getting online. 4. To provide models for other journals in Africa. 5. To assess the effect of going online on journal usage and journal sustainability. 6. To evaluate online as a future model for African journal publishing.
