EMC’s Journey to Autism Awareness

US Benefits and Support EMC first extended benefits for autism services in 2009 (well ahead of state mandate.) As a result of mental health parity regulation, EMC augmented to an unlimited benefit in 2011. In 2013, the standard office visit copays of $15 was extended to autism benefits, including ABA therapy with a maximum of 4 copays per month ($60) In 2014, in and out of network coverage parameters were applied for the first time.

US benefits Overview Total spend and utilization for the past 2 ½ years is summarized below: Use of EMC’s Autism benefit continues to increase with growing awareness among EMC’s employees and within the provider community Treatment for Applied Behavioral Analysis consistently represents more than 60% of total behavioral health claims for those with Autistic Disorders Total claims above exclude PT/OT/ST or other non behavioral health treatment modalities 2013 2014 YTD 2015 (6 Months) Total # of Claimants 64 85 98 Total Behavioral Health Spend for Autism Disorders $1.28M $1.70M $1.05M $4.02M Total for ABA Therapies $774K $1.08M $659K $2.52M

Us Benefits overview In light of state mandates in many states including MA, Optum and other behavioral health carriers have matured in their ability to manage autism services. Additional programs and benefits EMC provides: Autism Support Group Global Autism Awareness Campaign in support of “Light it Up Blue” MyEdGPS EMC sponsors active supports group facilitated by Metrowest Autism Alliance for parents of children with autism. Employees nationwide can dial in on a monthly basis to participate in meeting/group. MyEdGPS – Half of today’s workforce provides care for children from birth through young adulthood, 20% of which have special or exceptional needs such as Autism, ADHD, or Learning Disabilities. MyEdGPS is a robust online platform designed to communicate with and support parents of children who struggle or are diagnosed with special or exceptional needs. Acting as both a virtual advocate and assistant, myEdGPS supports education planning by prescribing state-specific actions plans, facilitating school communications, troubleshooting issues, organizing materials, tracking progress, and supporting transitions

Other programs Global EAP Traditional and Onsite: Traditional EAP includes 5 in-person outpatient visits PMPY (per issue) in addition to unlimited telephonic support (all at no cost to the employee) Onsite EAP counselors are available at 10+ EMC locations, offering 30+ hours/wk of free individual and group counseling sessions The EAP clinicians can provide in-person counseling, objective viewpoints, and expert guidance EMC’s onsite EAP program continues to expand as demand increases

EMC Lights It Up Blue Santiago de Chile Sao Paulo-Brazil Franklin, MA what you’re seeing on the screen right now are just some of the locations around the world who participated in the campaign… In honor of this historic day, many iconic landmarks as well as thousands of homes and communities that take part to Light It Up Blue. Buenos Aires Hopkinton, MA Apex, NC

EMC Lights It Up Blue India México-Torre Mayor Hopkinton Cafeteria EMC sites were involved in a number of ways to raise awareness about autism, either by wearing blue, holding education sessions and sharing information – Being in benefits I have to tell you that this is such an important issue for many of our colleagues. In the US, we worked hard to implement health benefits especially for autism, and we’re proud to have done it. Many other EMC locations have similar – or in some cases better – autism benefits than the U.S. ! Hopkinton Cafeteria London Santa Clara, CA

EMC LiGhts it up blue As we plan for next year, we hope to get even more locations to participate, and I know we will.

Lessons Learned & Testimonials “If at first you do not succeed…” “Work through the pain… Testimonials “…This is a huge benefit not only to our children, but to us as parents to have a forum that couples parents (coworkers) in our situation with an expert in our situation” - Nancy “Throughout my tenor here at EMC I’ve been offered numerous positions with other corporations with higher compensation but when I weigh the generous benefits which made all the difference in my daughter life loyalty and gratitude is something intangible that money alone cannot buy making me proud to call myself an EMCer!” - David
