THE LEGAL PROFESSION IN THE COUNTRY OF LOCAL COUNSEL: - Membership of legal professional body: (Law “On Advocacy” 1999 (with last amendments of 2004)) - Admission to professional body: (Minimum 3 years of legal practice; exam on Azeri law taken College of Advocates, etc.) - Education in professional body: (Practicing law in the local law firms with continuing the training courses, training in the western law firms through international financial and educational organizations, etc.) - Professional rules: (Acting legislation provides some general rules on ethical and professional behaviour of lawyers; Also western experience on professional rules are practiced in many major law offices of Baku) Insurance: (Acting legislation does not provide compulsory insurance for legal practice, however most of the law offices are getting to be insured)

THE PRACTICE OF LOCAL COUNSEL: Form of practice: - Membership in the College of Advocates; - Independent lawyer (as kind of entrepreneurial activity) Composition of practice: - Membership in the College of Advocates; - Establishing a private law firm in any legal organizational form provided by the law (being at the same time a member of College of Advocates); - Practicing individually without establishing a legal person

FILE MANAGEMENT: International experience: (International experience on “file management”, codifying the cases with the clients are used or applied in most law office and also by the lawyers practicing individually) Communication with the client: (Communication with the clients – mostly with the western clients is carried out in compliance with the western professional rules. The language of communication in most of the law firms are Azeri, Russian and English) PRACTICE MANAGEMENT: International presence: ( There are several representative or branch offices of the leading western law firms in Baku; and also local law firms practicing the law in association with the western law firms)

CONCLUSIONS: In spite of the fact that interest of the local law firms in Forum was great from the beginning, however due to unknown reason Azerbaijan was presented at the Forum only by one law firm. Therefore, FINA LLP proposes to conduct the next meeting of the Forum in Baku which is also very hospitable city located between Asia and Europe
