Jefferson Elementary School's Composers Club

Students compose their own music using skills learned during their music classes. Students read and write music using staff notation on paper and with staff notation software.

Students input their composition. Students play back their composition and edit it by choosing orchestration, dynamics, tempo, etc. Students compile all "tracks" into one piece. Students "burn" the completed work onto a CD that can be played on a CD player. Students receive individual copies of the finished composition.

6 to 8 students would come to the music room from 2:20-3:20 for one week. Students would work in pairs independently and with the teacher to create their compositions using paper and staff notation software. Sibelius is compatible with the Clavinova. With the teacher’s assistance, the students would use the Clavinova to record their compositions. When completed, all compositions would be merged into one piece. Each student would receive a copy of the recorded music to take home. Composers Club would run during the “non-performance” months such as January, February, March, and April. One hundred students divided into ten to twelve groups could potentially meet during this time. A small fee ($3.00) might be collected to cover the cost of the CD’s and jewel cases. How the Composers Club Might Work

Future Possibilities Music Video Club Students would compose their own music. Students would create a music video using Movie Maker. ??????
