I’m Only Sharing... It’s not hurting anyone

Did You Know … Illegally downloading music costs the music industry 12.5 BILLION dollars each year?

Did You Know … That over 70,000 people have lost jobs because of illegal music downloading?

Did You Know … That it can cost $100,000 or $250,000 even up to $3 Million for a major recording artist to make an album?

Did You Know … That the music artist gets between 5%- 10% on the sale of their music? That means if you buy a CD for $15, they might get $1.50. If you download the CD for $9.99, they probably only get 49¢! BUT, they have to pay back the cost of recording first!

Did You Know … That you could be criminally prosecuted for making unauthorized copies of music and could be fined up to $250,000 & spend 5 years in prison?

Did You Know … That you could be civilly prosecuted for making unauthorized copies of music and could be fined $750 for each song?

Did You Know … A 58 year old woman in Scotland was recently fined over $88,000 for distributing music on a P2P network.

Did You Know … Limewire was sued and closed down in December 2010 & recently agreed to pay music companies $105 Million**? ** Much better than the $1 Billion it could have been!

Did You Know … That children as young as 12 have been sued for illegally downloading music?

Did You Know … That using P2P Networks can give people access to the files on your computer and home network?

Did You Know … That many of the files shared on P2P Networks contain viruses or spyware that can damage your machine or home network?

Did You Know … That Internet Service Providers can detect connections to illegal sites and flag large file downloads?

Show What You Know! Listen to each scenario & decide if what the person is doing is legal or not: Legal? Move to the left Not Legal? Move to the right Not Sure? Stay in the middle Be ready to defend your choice!
