Security During Movement Leaders assign areas of responsibility for fire coverage Route selection –Avoid obvious Avenues of Approach –Avoid open areas or cross them quickly Proper Movement Formation & Technique Leaders control movement (know where you are!) Make best use of cover & concealment FM 7-8, pg. 2-24
Offensive Fire Control Measures Hand and arm signals Radio/Auditory Pyrotechnics Graphical measures (LOA, boundaries, TRPs, sectors of fire, etc.) Chemical lights NODs/ IR Laser (AN/PEQ-2A)
Considerations 1 of 3 Terrain and Weather: –How is “sparsely wooded terrain” going to affect our movement? –What are our actions enroute (danger areas)? Enemy Situation: –What does enemy disposition, composition, and strength really mean? –What are the enemy’s weaknesses? –When is the enemy destroyed?
Considerations 2 of 3 Mission: –What are we going to do and why? (Task/Purpose) –How will I know that we are successful? Concept of the Operation: –Sequential word picture (how is the fight going to occur) –Use of sand table/concept sketch (show me) –Designation of main and supporting efforts –What is my squad going to do? Where do I go on the objective? Am I tying in with somebody on the OBJ? What does my squad have to do to support the PLT mission accomplishment?
Considerations 3 of 3 Fires: –Does my squad or the platoon have priority of fires? –Where are the targets? (Show me on the sand table.) Tasks to maneuver units: –What are the extra things I have to do to support accomplishment of the platoon mission? Tasks to combat support units: –Cover purpose/priorities and capabilities of supporting units.
