Chapter. 1 Infinitive

 To deceive oneself is very easy.  I decided to refrain from drinking.  My ambition is to be a CEO. “Noun uses” of infinitive takes a role in subject, object, and complement in sentence.

“Adjective uses” modifies nouns in front.  I have a lot of reports to read today.  JeJu is the ideal place to send a vacation.  It is time to have a break.

 He went abroad to collect some data.  He grow up to be a teacher.  I was surprised to hear of uncle’s sudden death. “Adverb uses” should be translated appropriately by situation.

 To do her best, she couldn’t learn English in two weeks.  They must be very foolish to believe what the cheat said.  To hear him speak English, you would think him for an America. “Adverb uses” should be translated appropriately by situation.

Gerund is “a verb root + ~ing form” and use as subject, object, complement and object of preposition 1.Subject  Writing a poem is a real pleasure for me.  Making a kite is not easy.  Reading a lot of books helps you to become a writer.

4. Object of preposition  She is interested in cooking.  Mike is good at drawing cartoons.  They told me an easy way of doing it. 5.Negative gerund - “not / never + ~ing”  Not using paper cups helps to protect nature.  She insisted on never meeting him again.

Admit, adore, avoid, can’t stand, consider, deny, dislike, don’t mind, enjoy, escape, fancy, feel like, finish, imagine, involve, keep (on), look forward to, mention, mind, miss, practise, regret, resist, suggest, Understand.

Remember / forget + to / ~ing  Please remember to lock the door.  I remember locking the door before I went out.  Sam often forgets to take medicine.  I will never forget taking the medicine.
