Earthquakes happen where Earth's plates meet. Most earthquakes happen under the sea. Where the plates stick, pressure builds up and then the earth shakes.
Earthquakes Sudden movement of surface when accumulated strain along opposing sides of a fault is suddenly released. Rock stretches and snaps.

Overview This powerpoint of tsunamis will include the following informational slides: Vocabulary (1&2) Concept Explination (5,6&7) Impact (8,9,10&11) Conclusion (12)

Vocabulary: Tsunami- A tsunami is a giant wave created by an underwater earthquake or even an above water earthquake. It could also be caused by a submarine landslide or another disturbance. ( ) Earthquake- A sudden violent shaking of the ground. ( )

Vocabulary: Landslide- It’s a marine landslide that transports sediment across the ocean to the deep sea. ( ) Eruption- A sudden break out. ( ) Coasts- The part of the land near the sea:the edge of the land. ( )

Concepts The North Pacific Coast tsunami, in Japan, March 11, It had waves and winds as fast as 800km/hr, off the coast of japan at 2:46pm. facts.html facts.html

Concepts 40.5 m(133 ft) high waves in Miyako, Tohuku’s Iwate Prefecture. In Sendai, Japan, some waves travelled up to 10km inland. This tsunami was started by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake, underwater, near the coast of japan.

Impact On march 10, 2015, a japanese national police agency confirmed 15,891 deaths, 6,152 injuries, and also 2,584 people missing, and 228,863 people living away from their home.

Impact At the hypocenter of the tsunami, (about 70km away from Oshika Peninsula) waves were as deep as 30 km. The most powerful tsunami to ever hit japan in history.

Impact Many electrical generators were taken down due to hydrogen gas that built up within their outer containment buildings after cooling system failure resulting from the loss of electrical power. down-311

Impact There were landslides, fires, building and infrastructure damage, and nuclear incidents including radiation releases. facts.html facts.html

Conclusion As scientists have recorded, this tsunami/underwater earthquake was the most vast to ever have struck japan in history, and probably years to come. I see why the scientists would think that, as this event was a HUGE eye-opener for Japanese civilians in the area, because this tsunami caused a crazy amount of destruction.

Conclusion
