Animal Breeders work with a bunch of different species. They have a range of things to do including: Caring for animals, assist with mating, assisting the young, keeping the animals healthy, and keeping records of certain facts for every animal. Assisting with mating also includes having certain breeds mate with certain breeds.

Working Conditions Depends on the type of animal you’re dealing with. – Could be outside with horses, cattle, etc. – Inside with dogs, cats, lizards, etc. – Animals need to be cared for seven days a week, so it may interfere with holidays, or you may need to hire workers.

Go to a 2 to 4 year college Courses that will be a good idea to take. – Veterinary medicine – Generics – Biology

Duties and Responsibilities Care for animals seven days a week until someone is willing to buy the animal. Breed certain breeds with certain breeds. Assist with production of animals’ young. Keep records of the animal’s breed, vaccinations, health, etc.

This occupation is expected to grow four percent by 2016.

Where can you go to get training? You can go to college to get a degree. You can go observe other animal breeders in their work. Any experience with record keeping, biology, and animals helps greatly.

Personal Qualifications Need to have experience with animals. Needs to be able to keep accurate records. Need to be able to care for animals 7 days a week or hire someone if you are gone. Take as many science courses dealing with animals as possible.
