Thursday The spider constructed her web, using the inborn talent of her kind. The morning dewdrops shone like diamonds on it. But she didn’t feel pride. She was a hunter, and a patient one. Perhaps she would catch an insect in her trap today; perhaps not. She could go for days without food, but when she did catch her prey, she would quickly paralyze it with her poison and eat. 1. Which of these statements is the best summary? A. Spiders construct webs by instinct. B. Spiders can go without food for days. C. The morning dew makes webs beautiful. D. Spiders build webs to trap insects. By the year 2025, people had invented machines to do most of the work. No one had a job. It was considered old-fashioned to work. There was all the time in the world to play. Sometimes when people got really tired of playing, they would take a vacation to place where they could pay to work. They really looked forward to those vacations from play. 2. Which of these would be the best summary statement? A. In the future, people will not take vacations. B. People will someday invent a machine that will think. C. Machines will soon rule the world. D. Machines allowed people to play all the time.
