Presentation transcript:

Wednesday, February 25 and Thursday, February 26 I can apply grammar skills. I can apply before, during, and after reading strategies. I can create body paragraphs with transitions, strong claims, FEED, and commentary.

Bell Ringer Underline the correct pronouns in the parentheses.

WFA 3.2 Answer your questions on your answer sheet. We will try Grade Cam in order to record.

Five Minutes to Review You will have five minutes to review through page 104 and questions to 40. Make sure that they are complete.

The Alchemist Quiz 2 Write the answers on your own paper. Click into the clickers.

The Alchemist Read from pages Answer the questions

Archetypal Hero Where is Santiago on the wheel? Discuss with an elbow partner. Be ready to discuss whole group.

Imagery Chart The caravan travels through the desert to reach the oasis. It moves from one environment to a completely different environment. The words used to describe an oasis are antonyms for those that describe a desert— wet versus dry, for example. Using the example that we have supplied—contrasting the city and the country—as a guide, create a chart that describes the oasis and the desert as they are represented in the story. Another way to describe a setting is through the use of symbols. Choose a few words from each setting and draw symbols to represent them. Try not to use words in your symbols unless they need clarification, as in “omen.” Be creative and challenge yourself to use less common symbols, or invent new ones.

Writing You should be working on your 3 body paragraphs. Within your body paragraphs you should… ◦ Have the topics (claims) in the same order as they are listed in your thesis. ◦ Have transitions (try to come up with something more sophisticated than first, next, finally).  Try…Furthermore, In addition to, For example, to illustrate, in the same way…etc. ◦ Have a strong claim (topic sentence). ◦ FEED your claim (provide facts, evidence, examples, and details) to support your claims. ◦ Add commentary-this is the so what part, connect your claim and the feed. Why does it matter/what does it mean?
