A resource is something you use to get information: a source of information.

and each has its own special purpose!

If you’re taking notes, you’ll want to write down the big brown word and the words in BLUE!

A dictionary is used to help a person find the definition of a word. It also has the part of speech, and the syllables broken down for you.

A thesaurus is used to help a person find synonyms and antonyms. Writers use these to make better word choices. A synonym is a word that means the same. An antonym is a word that means the opposite.

An encyclopedia is a resource that is used to help people find detailed information on a subject they are learning about or are interested in. Encyclopedias have volumes that are used to find subjects alphabetically.

An atlas is a book of maps. It helps people find continents, countries, cities, states, roads, and special places.

An almanac gives facts about populations, current events, ancient history, famous people, sports, elections, and many other things. New editions come out every year!

A newspaper/periodical has news on things that are happening right now in the world, your city, or neighborhood.

The internet has all of the different resources at your fingertips. You can use it to define words, find synonyms and antonyms, find maps, get information on any topic, and retrieve addresses and phone numbers.
