Presentation transcript:

vocabulary Thomas, BJ. Intermediate Vocabulary Pearson Education Limited, Longman. England.

The primary goal of this course is to enable students to build a reliable storage of vocabulary. The course presents the students to some dictionary practice, varied topics, word groups, word building strategies and idioms and collocations.

Upon completing this course, students will be able to: Learn the meanings of the words through context since the contextual setting gives students clues to word meanings. There are some contextual aids to word meanings such as: definition, restatement, example, comparison/contrast, description, familiar experience and association: synonyms/antonyms.

Identify the morphological form of vocabulary(e.g., prefix, suffix, and root form)to help chose the accurate meaning. Recognize vocabulary associations such as synonyms, antonyms because existing concepts can be used as a basis for acquiring new concepts.

Learn to use the dictionaries to develop understanding of word meanings when they cannot figure out the meanings from experience, context or structural analysis.
