Class Starter pg. 3 List 4 things you had to do from the time you woke up to the time you made it to 1 st hour. Now list them in the order you did them. Did order matter?

Order of Operations – Standard 2.c. Simplify numerical expressions with integers, exponents, and parentheses using order of operations.

In math, order matters too. When you evaluate an expression, you find its numerical value. To avoid confusion, mathematicians have agreed on a set of rules called the order of operations.

Powers

Evaluate the expression. (21 − 5) ÷ 8( − 3) ÷ 8

Evaluate the expression. (10 × 2) ÷ (1 + 1)8 − 1 − (18 − 2) ÷ 8

More Examples – Evaluate the expression.
