The Molecular Biology in practiced in Senegal in the topics : 1. Taxonomy and Phylogeny for animals and plants 2. Animals Microbiology 3. Plants Microbiology : Rhizobiums, Mychorizes 4. Medical Entomology : vectors of deseases 5. Parasitology and Epidemiology 6. Bacteriology 7. Molecular Immunology In most of the Institutions working with the molecular biology, all the steps are executed: specimens collection, tissues sampling, DNA extraction, PCR amplification and finally sequencing reactions. The institutions that have don’t molecular Biology facilities, send the sampled tissues to foreign laboratories for the further processes.

Senegalese Institutions using the molecular Biology 1. DAKAR UNIVERSITY  Faculty of Sciences And Technology:  Department of Vegetable Biology:  LCM (Common Laboratory of Microbiology) Collaboration of 3 institutions: UCAD, IRD, ISRA  Laboratory of Vegetable Biotechnologies: molecular biology of bean  Laboratory of Fungus Biotechnologies (Mycorhize and Fungus parasites)  Department of Animal Biology:  Genetics and Populations Dynamic  Ecology of vectors and parasites

 Faculty of Medicine:  Laboratory of Parasitology  IFAN (Institut Fondamental d’Afrique Noire Cheickh Anta Diop)  Laboratory of Entomology : phlebotomine sandflies and Leishmanias  Laboratory of Botany 1. PASTEUR INSTITUTE  Medical Virology  Experimental Bacteriology  Phenotypic and Genotypic Characterization of Pathogens  Study of the genotypic diversity of trains  Molecular Immunogenetic  Medical Entomology : mosquitoes and malaria

3. ISRA (Senegalese Institute for Agricultural researches)  LNERV (National Laboratory of Rearing and Veterinary Research)  CERAAS (Regional Centre for Studies on the Improvement of Adaptation to Drought) 4. IRD (Institute of Development Researches)  UR016: Characterization and Control of Vector Populations  CBGP (Centre of Biology and Populations Management)

If many senegalese institutions use the molecular biology techniques, the barcoding system is not yet part of their actitivties. Therefore, the priorities to raise awareness to the importance of this technique among researchers and institutions and make them use it are: 1. Large information on the concepts and applications of DNA barcoding 2. Capacity building on the technique 3. Acquisition of DNA Barcoding Equipment infrastructures 4. Setting up of national and sub-regional networks
