What is pumpkin?  Pumpkins are members of the gourd family. They are related to melons, cucumbers and squashes.  Fruit, not vegetables.

What is pumpkin like ?  Pumpkins have firm flesh, seeds in the center and a shell that is usually orange. shell seeds flesh

 Form: The pumpkin varies greatly in form, being sometimes nearly globular, but more generally onlong( 长方形的、椭圆形的 ) or ovoid( 卵形的 ) in shape.  Rind: The rind (surface) is smooth and very variable in colour.  Weight: The larger kinds acquire a weight of 40 to 80 lb ( 磅 ) (18 to 36 kg) but smaller varieties are in vogue (popular) for garden culture.

Where?  Cultivated in North America, continental Europe, they are plants native to the Western hemisphere ( 半球 ).

PUMPKIN & THANKGIVING DAY The Pilgrims( 旅行的人 ) who sailed on the May flower had a bountiful harvest of corn, barley （大麦）, beans and pumpkins in 1621.In order to thanks to Iroquois Indians who taught them how to grow pumpkin, they ate pumpkin pie and something similar to it with the natives.

PUMPKIN & HALLOWEEN There are at least two kinds of parlance ( 说 法 ) as for pumpkin light. Ⅰ People dug to get empty pumpkin and engrave grimace ( 鬼脸 ) in order to break up ghost ( 鬼魂 ) with a candle inside. Ⅱ Ghost light up the candles to cheat people following them, so people engrave a face of taunt ( 嘲讽 ) in the pumpkin surface to laugh at ghost.

Jack-O-Lantern  People also called the grimace pumpkin light Jack-O-lantern. Why?  One story about Jack, an Irishman, was not allowed into Heaven because he was stingy( 吝 啬的 ) with his money. So he was sent to hell. But down there he played tricks on the Devil (Satan), so he was kicked out of Hell and made to walk the earth forever carrying a lantern( 灯笼 ).

It is an agricultural exhibition every year since October, On August 8, 1946 a non-profit corporation, the Circleville Pumpkin Show, Inc., was formed for the operation of the Pumpkin Show.The purpose or purposes for which said corporation is formed are: To provide for and hold an annual Pumpkin Show upon the streets of Circleville, Ohio.

The World Record Falls! In the annual event, the world record has fallen once again this year. The largest pumpkin ever grown stands at 1,469 pounds. It was grown by Larry Checkon of North Cambria, Pennsylvania

The process of making a pumpkin light Choose a big pumpkin, slice it open. Look at the knife in the picture, that is the only Manufacture you need.

Then, settle each part of the shape what you would like your light be on the pumpkin with a pencil

Finish the eyes

Engrave the claw （爪 子） and the beard

Complete the mouse and the teeth

Make two ears with the part you have sliced and fix them at the top of the pumpkin light

Light up a candle in it 。 A pumpkin light is done ！
