What is pumpkin?  Pumpkins are members of the gourd family. They are related to melons, cucumbers and squashes.  Fruit, not vegetables.

What is pumpkin like ?  Pumpkins have firm flesh, seeds in the center and a shell that is usually orange. shell seeds flesh

 Form: The pumpkin varies greatly in form, being sometimes nearly globular, but more generally onlong( 长方形的、椭圆形的 ) or ovoid( 卵形的 ) in shape.  Rind: The rind (surface) is smooth and very variable in colour.  Weight: The larger kinds acquire a weight of 40 to 80 lb ( 磅 ) (18 to 36 kg) but smaller varieties are in vogue (popular) for garden culture.

Where?  Cultivated in North America, continental Europe, they are plants native to the Western hemisphere ( 半球 ).

Alimentation ( 营养 ) value  Rich in mineral and 胡萝卜素  P( 磷 ) 、 K( 钾 ) 、 Ca( 钙 ) 、 Mg( 镁 ) 、 Zn( 锌 ) 、 Si( 硅 ),etc  Rich in vitamin A B C  Cosmetology( 美容 ),especially for the female.

Jack-O-Lantern  People also called the grimace pumpkin light Jack-O-lantern. Why?  One story about Jack, an Irishman, was not allowed into Heaven because he was stingy( 吝 啬的 ) with his money. So he was sent to hell. But down there he played tricks on the Devil (Satan), so he was kicked out of Hell and made to walk the earth forever carrying a lantern( 灯笼 ).
