Welcome to Honors Seminar Fall 2015

Information!!! New Things for Fall 2015  This fall we have over 500 new freshmen in the program!!!! That places us at 1,150+ Honors Students!!  We’re going to take attendance differently – please be patient – today update your blue card, freshmen get book of guidelines.  New program – SOC – Ryan Winters will introduce  New staff – Ryan Winters and Angela Ardoin  New technology – new video camera  T-Shirt Contest  Time for freshmen to run for Honors Board!  Committee opportunities!  New website designs with Quick Links

What is Seminar?  A time When Honors Students get information from the university, the Honors Program, and each other.  A place where students meet each other and exchange ideas.  A place to practice speaking in public.  A place to learn outside the classroom.  A place to let your ideas run free.  Come next week with your seminar idea so we can vote!

Rules for Seminar  Please sign in – if not in this seminar tell us your name, CLID and what seminar you normally attend.  Please be courteous -  This is not a time to do homework.  Turn your cell phones and computers off and put them away.  Try not to talk while others are speaking.  Please be on time.  Please raise a hand to speak.  Please be courteous to your Graduate Assistant and Honors Board Members.

New Technology  New video and photography camera – takes stills and video.  Canon EOS Rebel T5i  Will be used for seminar – if we want to we can take video of seminar and place on YouTube!  Can us with permission for class projects, but you must sign it out!

T-Shirt Contest  Time for a new T-Shirt Design – bring us your designs this fall. $ prize for the chosen design for our new T-Shirts. We’ve had three smart monkeys, Baloo (bear in the quiet lounge), and Dr. Fred riding Baloo with the contract.  You can see previous designs in the quiet lounge.  Use your imagination! Must be a line drawing as it goes to a print shop – hopefully just one color but will do two if chosen – like black and/or white on the red shirt.  Bring drawings to the Honors Building. We’ll post them in the quiet lounge and vote the last week of October.  Deadline for designs: October 23 rd

Scholarships and Applications  New scholarships for Fall 2015  Applications available on the website or at the office window on the second floor of the Honors Building  Posted Wednesday, September 2 nd  Download, fill it out, and turn it in with transcript  Scholarship deadline: 5:00 pm September 25 th.

We Need You  We need students for the Honors Board  5 Freshmen, 1 Junior  Please give use your resume. Bring to the Honors office window, second floor of Judice-Rickels Hall (Honors Building)  We will post resumes in the Quiet Lounge  You can introduce yourself at seminar  You can place posters at the Honors Building  Start soon! We’ll vote on our candidates the week of September 21 st.  Good Luck to all of you!

Committees!  Committees should be up to date. Meetings at beginning of semester with subcommittee choices.  Try and serve once a semester – lots of opportunities.  Committee Lists and event dates available on the website.  We need your energy and input to make this a better program, school, and community!
