MEET AND GREET SCHOOL YEAR By: Laura Cabrera

ABOUT ME  I was born in Massachusetts and my parents are from Ecuador.  I have been teaching for 15 years and this is my 11 th year at Ada Merritt K-8 Center.  I have a daughter named Arianna starting middle school this year.  My favorite activity is reading.

CLASSWORK  3 composition books will be required for my class on a daily basis. Writing journal, Reading / Language Arts, and Science.  They may occasionally go home for homework.  Pencil pouch or box with three sharpened pencils, erasers and a sharpener with lid is mandatory. As well as scissors, crayons, etc.

HOMEWORK  Students will copy homework off of the board daily in their agenda.  Homework will be posed Monday afternoons on SchoolRack.com.  i-Ready must be completed after initial diagnostic assessment at school. Will be required twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday. Will be graded quarterly. Twenty I-Ready per quarter are mandatory.  Homework will be assigned daily.

WISHLIST  Treasure box donations are ALWAYS accepted.  AdoptAClassroom is an option.  Classroom magazines such as Scholastic, Time For Kids, or National Geographic.

CELEBRATIONS  2 celebrations per year are allowed  Thanksgiving or Christmas  End of the year  No birthday celebrations are allowed  Reminder that this is a peanut / nut free school.

BEHAVIOR AND DISCIPLINE  Incentive reward chart will be used. Based on homework / behavior.  Stoplight chart will also be utilized.  Rewards include treasure box after student earns TEN STICKERS on their chart.  Once a month, we will have lunch bunch. Criteria will vary.

P.T.A AND ROOM PARENTS  Please join our P.T.A.  Room parent TBD.  Required reading for 2 nd grade will be available through the P.T.A. (more information will be forthcoming.)

MISCELLANEOUS  Snacks are recommended due to early lunch time. Some suggestions are: string cheese, fruit, yogurt, chips, etc. Small and portable preferred. Not sure if school providing snacks this year.  Scholastic Book Club – orders will be placed monthly to earn our classroom points. Flyers will be going home occasionally and will always be available online on the homework website. Please use our class code. HRR8F  School hours are are 8:35 – 3:05 except Wednesday when dismissal will be at 1:50 school wide. Doors will be opened at 8:25 a.m. every morning.  Best way to communicate with me is via –  Conferences will be scheduled with both teachers usually in the morning or during planning time if necessary.  Be make sure that your child knows how they go home for the first day of school  Supplies may be dropped off today or brought on Monday.
