 Languages are invaluable tools in our global society—increased job opportunities  Cultural pluralism  Increased awareness of native language and culture  Cognitive development: mental flexibility, creativity, high order thinking skills

 German may be your heritage language  For business, culture, friendship and travel  Germany is the world’s largest exporter and a major trade partner w/U.S.  Over 200 million Europeans speak German as a first language  German improves the understanding of English  German students are likely to score higher on SAT and ACT tests for college  German is an international language in technology, chemistry, medicine, music, philosophy and art.  One in ten books published in the world is in German  25% of the U.S. population claims German ancestry  Germans travel more than any other nationals on Earth—you are likely to meet them everywhere!

 Be organized  Keep vocabulary lists, flashcards  Review frequently: a little everyday  Trial and error: make lots of mistakes and learn from them  Don’t fall behind!  Keep an open mind and have fun with it

 Lots of listening and speaking in German  Group work and pair work  Frequent homework (10-15 min. per night)  Lots of vocabulary  A variety of teaching techniques are employed for various learning styles (visual, auditory, tactile)  An emphasis on proficiency—using performance based assessments and demonstrating what you have learned.

 Textbook Komm Mit!  2 Workbooks (in German binder)  Notebook or loose leaf paper (in German binder)  Pencil  Colored correcting pen or marker  A respectful, responsible and accountable attitude.
