What Makes Semanggi Unique By Bianca Semanggi becomes one of the symbol of Surabaya. Semanggi is one of aquatic plants that is choosen. It is also chosen to be a pattern in Surabaya and it shows luckiness when there are a four clover. Semanggi is well-known as a traditional food from Surabaya. Since more people go to Surabaya, they know semanggi more and other people from the world know semanggi too. Since it can grow in Surabaya, they see it really unique because it has 4 or 5 leaf clover. Then the other country made a new myths for it which is a sign of good luck and the sign to make the bad spirits go away. When it is famous, Indonesia will not leave it like that. So Surabaya’s people has an idea to make semanggi as batik make it more famous, said Mrs. Putu Since more people buy batik in Indonesia they see more semanggi and it is more famous. By: angelo

by: Ye Seul Tugu Pahlawan Monument and Suro & Boyo Statue

What makes Tugu Pahlawan Monument unique Tugu pahlawan is a monument that becomes the symbol of Surabaya, Indonesia. The high of Tugu Pahlawan is 41,15 m. In the symbol has a curve line as much as 10 curves. This represents that in 10 November 1945 there was a war in the city of Surabaya as Dutch tried to attack Surabaya again after the Independence of Indonesia. All over Indonesia have known Tugu Pahlawan and become an icon of Surabaya. Tugu pahlawan was made to remember the date of meetings of 10 of November 1945 in Surabaya. by : Ye Seul

What make Tugu Pahlawan monument unique Tugu Pahlawan monument becomes one of the symbol of Surabaya because it represents 10 th of November 1945 when a war happened in Surabaya and it represents also the heroism of the citizen of Surabaya that defends our city and people can’t find it anywhere else. What makes Sura and Baya unique Sura and Baya is one of the legend from Surabaya and it became one of the symbol of Surabaya because this legend comes from Surabaya and people said it happen in Kalimas, which is one of the river in Surabaya and other city didn’t have this kind of legend. This causes Suro and Baya become the symbol and icon of Surabaya. When they had a fight, they blead a lot so the river turned into red and they name it Jembatan Merah. By: Ye Seul, Bianca, Jessica

Mangrove By: Ye Seul

What makes Mangrove unique Now mangrove became one of the new symbol of Surabaya because mangroves which located in east of Surabaya, have grown well since long time ago and this become natural cultural heritage. Now people make batik with mangrove pattern. It is chosen as one of the symbol for Surabaya since many people start chopping down mangroves. And by using it as a symbol, people will care more about mangroves and conserve them rather than chopping them. Other cities don’t use mangrove as one of their symbol. This makes mangroves special. In Surabaya now people make Surabaya mangrove sights. People also start conserving mangroves as they start to realize the importance mangroves for Surabaya environment and natural heritage. While other cities use monuments or architectures for their symbol, Surabaya uses nature for the new icon. By Jessica
