 The God Anubis is an Egyptian God that is the God of the underworld.  Anubis was specified as the God of the mummification process and funeral rites.  Anubis also weighed hearts and other body organs to make sure that the body and organs were pure enough to enter the afterlife. Anubis weighing the heart Anubis’ name in hieroglyphics

 Anubis had a different name that was Inpu, which means to decay.  King Osiris was Anubis’ father and his mother was Nephthys. His name was somewhat altered to Imy-ut which means He Who is In the Place of Embalming  Anubis is closely represented with the Eye of Horus  This is the eye of Horus it resembles life and resurrection.

 Anubis’s wife (consort) was Anput. She was only recognized with the seventeenth nome. Her name is Anubis’ name but femine.  Anput and Anubis’ child was Kebechet. She is the goddess of purification and she helped her father in the embalming process.  This is Anubis’ wife’s hieroglyphics  This his daughters hieroglyphics

 Anubis was worshipped throughout Egypt and in the Ptolomaic Period he became connected with the Greek god Hermes.  He was worshipped in Rome until the second century.  He was also worshipped in the 17 th nome which is his cult in the land of Hardai in Upper Egypt.  Anubis was also venerated in the eighth nome which is in Abt. Also in the thirteenth nome in Asyut. They are both in Upper Egypt.

 Anubis fought the “nine bows” which was called the enemies of Egypt.  Soon after this he became known as "Jackal Ruler of the Bows"  Anubis was always pictured standing over the cemetery or necropolis.

 Anubis didn’t have a downfall but, helped in the process of other downfalls.  He was part of the embalming process (mummification) so, he would weigh hearts and other body parts to see if they are pure enough to enter the underworld.  Anubis got the epithet "tpy-djuf“ this meant he who is on his mountain.  This depiction suggests that he was seen kept watch on the hill above the Theban necropolis.

 The picture above depicts Anubis weighing Ma’at’s heart.  Anubis guiding Hawra into the underworld.  Anubis at the mummification process.
