Careers in Math Bricklayer/Stonemason
Job Description Bricklayers build houses, chimneys, patios and anything that requires stacking concrete blocks and bricks. Stonemasons jobs are similar, but it includes cutting stones to size for building.
Working conditions Bricklayers mostly work outdoors. It is a dirty job: mortar, dust and mud are all tools of the trade. Most bricklayers work in non-winter months do to weather conditions.
Earnings Bricklayers are usually paid by the hour. Rates vary depending on where you live. Pay range is from $12 to $30 per hour. More experienced bricklayers could make up to $35 per hour.
Education/Training Most bricklayers learn on-the-job in an apprenticeship program. Apprenticeship programs could take up to 3 years to complete. A high-school diploma may be required. You may take a 2-year program at a vocational school for training.
