Bar Graphs Created by Mr. Hemmert

ARMT 15  Represent categorical data using tables and graphs, including bar graphs, line graphs, and line plots. Collecting data using observations, surveys, or experiments Creating tally charts to represent data collected from real-life situations

What is a Survey?  Survey – collecting information by asking a number of people the same question and recording their answers.  For example, “What is your favorite candy?”  I could then give you a couple of choices and record your responses. This is a survey.

Surveys  Tally Marks – are the lines that you use to count your data. Look at the example below. How much do these tally marks represent?

Example of how to Create a Bar Graph  First, conduct a survey and collect your data. For example, What is your favorite website? Your choices are, BrainBashers, Disney Channel, Moodle, or Fun Brain

Example of how to Create a Bar Graph  Step 2 – Collect your data. WebsitesTally MarksTotal BrainBashers Disney Channel Moodle Fun Brain

Example of how to Create a Bar Graph  Step 3 – Create your bar graph. Remember, you must include titles for both of your axis (y and x) and your bar graph.

Your Turn  In groups of 4, you are going to conduct a survey.  You will have to come up with a survey question, with at least 4 choices.  You will then survey the class with a tally chart.  Once you have collected your data, you will then create a bar graph using Microsoft Excel.  Good Luck!
