AOL GOVERNMENT MOBILE TECHNOLOGY STUDY | MARKET CONNECTIONS, INC. | Study Conclusions / Potential Next Steps 11 Agency managers are optimistic about the potential for mobility o They sense opportunities for significant productivity improvements and operational savings o They identify multiple areas where savings might be achieved (lower real estate costs, reduced IT hardware/software/support costs, greater use of employees’ time.) o They also show real progress in developing mobile apps/websites for citizens and employees But they struggle with how to pay for investments needed for mobility o They anticipate additional costs and new processes will be needed to achieve broader savings o But IT departments worry they must absorb new costs, while savings flow outside of IT They also need a clearer roadmap of how best to embrace mobility o Data and mobile device security issues remain a key barrier to progress o Better acquisition vehicles, support tools and guidance are needed Expectations of IT savings don’t match up with expected device use o Managers don’t foresee significant shift from traditional hardware to mobile devices -- so savings will need to be carefully examined and likely come from new IT service models The opportunities for transformation from mobility falls on executive management, not just IT departments AOL GOVERNMENT MOBILITY STUDY
