Overview ➲ What is Entrepreneurship? ➲ How to become an entrepreneur friendly community. ➲ Short-term strategy ➲ Ongoing Support ➲ Long-term strategy ➲ Recommendations

What is Entrepreneurship? ➲ It's a long word, hard to spell, hard to say... ➲ Dictionary description: Someone who runs a business at his own financial risk. ➲ Layman terms: Putting your heart and soul into what you believe will be successful. It's the spirit of small business where farming, soap making, hardware store, etc. is the back bone of a local community economic growth.

How to become an entrepreneur friendly community ➲ Provide avenues that help small businesses start up and grow with support from the community. ➲ Understand that small business growth helps strengthen the local community revenue stream (taxes, services, tourism). ➲ Maintain proper attitude to help the small business feel they are a part of a growing community.

Short-term strategy Resources ➲ Provide avenues that help small businesses start up and grow with support from the community. ➲ Utilize the knowledge and expertise of the three Kentucky Entrepreneurial Coaches (KEC) located in our country. ➲ Utilize the resources of the Northern Kentucky University and the Small Business Administration. ➲ Create a local Senior Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE) group. ➲ Chamber of Commerce or NKU Should develop a market study that helps identify entrepreneurial businesses that could be successful.

Short-term strategy Recognition ➲ Create an aurora of celebration for businesses new and old. ➲ Identify and promote our current Entrepreneurial business. ➲ Use wireless Internet to promote local businesses and our community.

Short-term strategy Education & Training ➲ Create a central point for e-ship information. ➲ We recommend the Extension Office to serve as the physical location for Information and that the Internet be used to provide entrepreneurial information. ➲ Engage youth in e-ship training. ➲ Chamber of Commerce appoint a committee to serve as mentors and guides for aspiring new businesses. ➲ Educate local leaders on the positive effects of being an entrepreneurial friendly county.

Ongoing Support ➲ Establish a Business Persons Association to generate interest to promote and to address issues effecting their business. ➲ Develop an Entrepreneurial Support Group where new entrepreneurs can interact with long-term entrepreneurs to share ideas and learn from each other.

Long-term strategy What can we do in next 15 years ➲ Ongoing review of our attitude and growth toward entrepreneurship. ➲ Educate local leaders on positive effects of being an entrepreneur- friendly community. ➲ Identify and promote our current entrepreneurship businesses. ➲ Unify our craftsman and artists with a presence in downtown Owenton and through out the county. ➲ Support & recognize entrepreneurship training in our schools.

Long-term strategy What can we do in next 15 years... continued Promote our unique factors ➲ Rural living ➲ Agriculture focus ➲ Favorable cost of living ➲ Research possibility of working farms ➲ Available land for growth ➲ Develop downtown Owenton ➲ Faith based community ➲ Entrepreneurship training in our schools ➲ Caring people

Recommendation ➲ Recommend one or several strategies ➲ Give a summary of the expected results ➲ Name the next steps to be taken ➲ Delegate the various tasks
