AIM To describe and give an overview of ultrasonographic findings of various splenic abnormalities.

MATERIALS AND METHODS Data of ultrasound abdomen done for splenic pathologies in our department from were collected and reviewed. We studied the typical ultrasound features of wide range of splenic pathologies.Spleen was scanned by a real time ultrasound using low frequency (2-5 MHz) curvilinear probe and high frequency linear probe as and when necessary.

RESULTS We describe the ultrasound features of various abnormalities of spleen such as splenunculi, splenic cyst, abscess, hydatid cyst, granuloma, hemangioma, lymphoma,Gauc her disease,Wilson’s disease, hemangioma, splenic infarct, hematoma, metastasis, splenomegaly,po rtal hypertension, acute myeloid leukemia.

CONCLUSION Ultrasound has many advantages, especially in case of emergency, including easy availability, low cost and lack of ionising radiation.A combination of ultrasound features and clinical data often help the radiologists in providing an accurate diagnosis and thereby help the clinician in further management.Hence, awareness of ultrasound appearance of various splenic diseases are important for correct interpretation of findings.
