Lublin

Information about Lublin  Lublin is the ninth largest city in Poland and the second largest city of Lesser Poland. It is the capital of Lublin Voivodeship (province) with a population of 349,103 (March 2011). Lublin is the largest Polish city east of the Vistula River. It was recently a candidate for the title of "2016 European Capital of Culture". Lublin is approximately 170 kilometres (106 miles) southeast of the capital, Warsaw.

History The historical region of Poland includes Lublin. Lublin came closer before the partitions of Poland, which is known as Lubelszczyzna. Provinces centered on Lublin existed during great part of the history of Poland. The region was, before the Second World war, one of the principal world centers of the Judaism. After the defeat of the Nazi it lost importance.

Population From 1999, the population of Lublin was estimated in , the highest in the history of the city. With this great growth it placed in the most important ninth city, speaking about population, in Poland. Warsaw leads this list with followed by Cracow with citizens

Economy Stand out his industries of the car and of agricultural machinery. In addition, it is a fertile region that produces meat, wheat, flour, sugar, tobacco, beer and vegetable oils. It has two important universities: the Catholic University (until a few years ago only of his type in Poland) and the University Maria Curie-Sklodowska. The cathedral dates back to the 16th century. Provided that Lublin is one of the cities that connects West with East; the Chapel of the Holy Trinidad in Lublin is a harmonic merger of catholic motives with Russian - Byzantine styles; thus such a chapel is a successful synthesis of two styles that frequently are considered to be opposite: the Byzantine one and the Gothic.
