Review: What is culture? Dance Traditions Music Foods Language Religion

A Blend of Many Cultures Brazilians culture includes: Brazils Official Language: Porteguese European, African, Asian, and Indian influence. Why are they a blend of cultures and not just Brazilian? Religions: Roman Catholic and Candromble, which is a mix of African and Catholic religious practices.

A Diverse Population Africans Native Brazilians Around 6 million Indians lived in Brazil before the Portuguese arrived. Today, only 700,000 Indians live in Brazil in the Amazon Rainforest The Brazil government set up reservations to protect the Indians in the Amazon, but as more people use resources from the rainforest, more tribes are at risk. What other event in history does this sound like? After slavery ended, slaves escaped to northern regions similar to the living conditions in Africa and set up quilombos, an African word for housing. African’s created the national food, feijoada a bean stew, and also had an influence in the arts and music of Brazil. What would you have done?

A Diverse Population Europeans Asians Brazil was viewed as a place of wealth by Europeans. This made many Europeans want to move to invest in the coffee industry. Most people of European ancestry live in the Southern party of the country Does this mean that Brazil is some what racially divided? Many Japanese immigrants began coming over to Brazil to work on the coffee or tea farms. After World War II, more Japanese immigrants came over. Today, Brazil has the largest Japanese population other than Japan. Why would Japanese people leave their country after WWII?
