Unit 10 The World Around Us The second period

Ⅰ.Leading -in In the last period, we talked about animals. We know that animals are friends of human beings. Today, we’re going to read more about animals, plants and human beings. First, I’ll give you some pictures

Ⅱ. Pre-reading 1.Words and Expressions ⑴ keep…from---prevent sb from doing sth e.g. I hope I’m not keeping you from your work. ⑵ species n.( 复数不变 )---a group of plants or animals with in a genus differing only in minor detail from the others e.g. This species of rose is rare. ⑶ be used to (doing) sth---accustomed to sth e.g. I’m used to hard work.

⑷ take measure e.g. What measures were taken to prevent fires? ⑸ adapt v.---becoming adjusted to new conditions. e.g. We must adapt our methods to the new circumstances. ⑹ first of all---before anything else (in our text) e.g. First of all you must be honest. ⑺ make a (no some…) difference to sb (sth) a.Have an (no some…) effect on sb (sth) e.g. The rain didn’t make much difference to the game. b. Be important (unimportant) to sb (sth) e.g. It won’t make much difference whether you go today or tomorrow.

Questions to help understand 1.How do plants and animals live together? 2.What do human beings need to survive? 3.What do plants and animals need to survive? 4.What do animals do to survive in places where it is very hot or cold, where there isn’t much water, or where it is different to find food?

1.Animals and plants live together in an ecosystem where each species has a specific function. They “help” each other in different ways: some plants become homes for animals, the animals eat plants and help them reproduce. 2. Not only need basic conditions, such as air, sunlight, water, food, and shelter, but also social and spiritual needs: friends, family and social organizations etc. 3.Like human beings they need basic conditions: air, sunlight, water, food etc. Besides, they need shelter as well as living in social groups. 4.They have to adapt to changes in their habitat and try to learn to survive when the conditions of their habitat change. Otherwise they will have to find a new home.

Ⅲ.Reading Comprehension ㈠ The General Idea : It tell us why a species becomes endangered and what we can do to protect endangered plants and animals.

㈡.Fast reading to answer the questions 1.Why do animals and plants become endangered? 2.A species can become endangered when its habitat is changed or destroyed. Can you think of things human beings do that may destroy or cause changes in a habitat? 3.What can we do to protect animals and plants that are being endangered?

It’s main answers : 1.Habitat change, the arrival of new species in the habitat, and the overuse of the species itself or the resources in the habitat. 2.Such as polluting the air, water and soil, using too much land and hunting, can all destroy or change the animals’ habitat, causing some plants or animals to die out. 3.Try our best to stop polluting our environment and persuade people to protect the plants and animals instead of hunting or destroying them. Besides, we should plant more trees and grass.

List 1.I’ll not throw waste everywhere, and collect glass bottles. 2.I’ll take care of trees and flowers and not let anyone destroy them. 3.I’ll make good use of everything to save resource, and encourage all my classmates to do so. 4.I’ll plant one tree each year.

Ⅴ.Summary and Homework In this period we’ve learnt a passage about plants, animals and human beings. We know it’s very important foe is to keep animals and plants fro, becoming endangered. We should do all we can to protect our environment. We have made a list of things that we can do in our daily life. I hope you can remember to do them from now on. Then remember the words and expressions, and try to use them correctly after class. Ok, Today’s homework: workbook, Page140, Exercise 1, 2 and 3

Ok, so much for today Good bye
