Presentation transcript:

How the Body Structure of a Tasmanian Devil Relates to Their Function The devil has a very powerful jaw that is designed to crush animals’ bones. They have third strongest jaw in animal kingdom. The Tasmanian Devil has a pouch to nurse and hold their young. The pouch opens toward the tail so the babies climb in and out between the mother’s legs. They use their paws to shove food into their mouth. They use their significant nose to smell their prey/meat

How the Body Parts of a Tasmanian Devil Work Together to Survive The jaws and the paws work together. The paws guide the bones of the animals that they eat so that the sharp parts don’t cut their throat, while the jaw just grids up the bones. The female's nipples and pouch work together because the pouch protects the nipples and babies. The pouch also holds the babies so they can get their mother’s milk and grow.

How a Tasmanian Devil’s Body System is Different and More Unique Than An Ordinary Mammal They contain the third strongest jaws in the animal kingdom. Only the great white shark and the hyena have stronger jaws. Their pouch holds their young and feeds the young. The mother can close the pouch water tight so the babies do not drown while the mother is swimming. The can run 25 km per hour.

How Potential Problems Effect the Tasmanian Devil Devils are found as road kill. Between 2001 and 2004 there were 3,392 devils killed. People may also be hunting them because they have lost more than 80% of their population since the 1990s A few to ways to prevent the loss of devils are to put up road signs, make barriers to prevent the devils from getting on the road, make tunnels, and underpasses to give options for devils to get across. Lastly reduce the speed limit. They are cannibals. They eat each other.

How Water and Sunlight Are Important to the Tasmanian Devil Tasmanian Devils are mammals like us, they need food and water to survive. They also need the sun’s warmth or they will die of the cold. Devils also love to have a sun bath. They may be carnivores but with out sunlight plants can not grow. And they eat animals that eat plants. They are mammals and mammals need oxygen! Without plants and sunlight there would be no oxygen.
