The best kind of the teacher is one who set realistic goals in the short and long term and who gave good quality and timely feedback to the student’s on their performances.

SUBJECT: Science GRADE: IV TOPIC: “Habitats” MONTH: January-February.

Adopt 21st century teaching approaches to enhances student observation, Critical thinking and integrating skills of science.

SHORT TERM GOALS To enable the students to; Identify different types of habitat. Recognize different animals found in a different habitats. Understand the meaning of classification. Recognize that animals and plants can be grouped by their similarities. Understand how different animals and plants can be identified by using keywords and how to unlock their identities. Describe the habitat of woodlice and conditions where woodlice like to live in. Find the super senses of different animals. Identify the food sources of different animals and the structure of a food chain in a specific habitat. Analysis that living things and their habitat needs protection.

Change questioning strategies with the students to promote critical thinking.

Content : Explanation, discussion, group activities, project work. Skills : Listening, reading, observing, researching, demonstration.

I will apply known to unknown strategy by asking questions from the students. I will make a concept web of different habitats of plants and animals on the board and complete it with the help of children. I will take the class for a nature’s walk in the school around the ring- road. Students will do an activity, they sort out things according to their similarities, e.g. cutlery, books, stationary. I will ask children to write the importance of classification. I will explain the two types of keys on the board and through a peer activity they will learn to make keys. I will take the children to ICT lab and they will work on simulation explorer and watch the activity of woodlice on YouTube.YouTube I will give the research work to find out the super senses of different animals like shark, dog, eagle, snakes, bats etc. I will explain how the food chains in a habitat forms. Student will do a given worksheet.worksheet I will discuss the importance of trees and how to protect the environment and call the children for presentation to share their ideas. Student’s may not own a computer. Students will get hyper while doing the demonstration Not many computers in the ICT lab They will stay after school to use a computer in school’s computer lab. Will give the time limit and incentives to those who completes the task on time. Will divide the class into two groups, one group in the ICT lab working on their task while the other group sitting in the class will complete their record sheet.
