Mobile Rapid Response Geospatial Data Delivery System for Washington DC Adam Timm Tom Gertin Chris Noble Gregg Heitkamp

Introduction In emergency situations, accurate, timely information is critical Emergency responders need information delivered to them on systems, and in formats that are easy to use, understand, and interact with.

Key Concepts Design the end user application with mobility in mind Current online mapping applications (Google Maps, Bing Maps, etc) are designed to dynamically adjust to the viewing screen size Mobile GIS applications should leverage these services and overlay situation specific information.

Possible data sources Commercial news sources Commercial imagery sources Social media outlets Local and National data sources Emergency responder on the scene

Data Processing/Management Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Data gets routed Manage resources Relay communications

Unified Communications Center (UCC) Built in 2006, $116 million Brought together multiple agencies Back-up facility 16 servers 150 workstations

Existing Process

Database Backend Oracle 10g Security measures Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) Building Fire Hydrants served M N building id name function floors exits centroid Fire hydrant id main feeder size model centroid

Proposed System Improvements Cameras / sensors Enhanced Visualization (ESRI tools)

Data analysis conceptual basis Automated data analysis works for simple problems Manual data analysis needed for complex problems Specialty knowledge/ experience Mixed data format Human impact Gridlock on the beltway from
