The way to begin a literary response Tag Statements The way to begin a literary response

What does TAG mean? T-Title A-Author G-Genre

Example: T- The Most Dangerous Game A- Richard Connell G- Short Story T- Annabel Lee A- Edgar Allan Poe G- Poem/Narrative Poem

What is the purpose of a TAG? Introduces the reader to the story you are responding to in your paragraph Gives the reader more information such as the genre of the story and the author Tell the reader the thesis (your point about the subject) of your response

An example… In Richard Connell’s short story “The Most Dangerous Game,” Rainsford ‘s long history of hunting gives him the upper hand when he is the one being hunted.

Another example? Eternal love, even through death, is a major theme of Edgar Allan Poe’s poem “Annabel Lee.”

Advice for the next CWA (next week) USE A TAG STATEMENT AS YOUR TOPIC SENTENCE!
