First Aid Notes Please use clean notebook paper to take today’s notes. You’ll need at least 2 sheets of paper. Place this week’s material in the “First Aid” section of your binder.

Notes: Ohio Good Samaritan Statute (paraphrased) “No person shall be held legally liable for care administered at the scene of an emergency, outside a medical facility, unless such care constitutes willful or wanton misconduct” Remuneration is an exception.

A person doesn’t need to be worried about being sued for performing first aid on someone as long as: 1. He behaves reasonably 2. Is not interfering with medical staff who are more capable 3. Doesn’t take compensation (remuneration) for the first aid he performs.

Message: No notes necessary on the next few slides: It’s encouraged that all of you receive training in first and CPR; Kudos to you if you already have!

But, even if you have never been officially training in first aid or CPR, it’s important for you to know you can still help in an emergency, even if you don’t have first aid certification.

Remember, it’s usually best to let someone who is trained and knowledgeable take the lead if there is more than one person present to help in an emergency situation.
