2 World Meteorological Organization Purpose What is the TCP? The Tropical Cyclone Programme is a part of WMOs Applications Programme Department tasked to establish national, regionally and internationally coordinated systems to ensure that the loss of life and damage caused by Tropical Cyclones are reduced to a minimum. How does it work? The Programme is effected on national, regional and international cooperative actions. It covers activities of WMO Members, WMO Regional associations, other International and Regional Bodies and WMO Secretariat. WMOs TROPICAL CYCLONE PROGRAMME

3 World Meteorological Organization Main long-term objectives To assist Members in upgrading the capabilities of NMHSs to provide better tropical cyclone, related flood and storm surge forecasts and more effective warnings through regionally coordinated systems, disaster prevention and preparedness measures To coordinate the future development and implementation of the five comprehensive regional cooperation programmes WMOs TROPICAL CYCLONE PROGRAMME
