Electronic submission of crash reports – reduces data element errors – allows for timelier updating of crash information – increased efficiencies in crash analysis 172 law enforcement agencies submit crash reports electronically 60-65% of Long forms submitted electronically 9 vendors provide e-crash software

Legislative Changes – to s Revenue Sharing - $5 for each report FIRESportal.com South Florida Processing Center Grant Funding for free software and hardware

The intent of the changes to F.S is to  combat Insurance fraud  place emphasis on injury and CMV crashes  capture more data with the inclusion of short forms

 Prepared by law enforcement must be submitted to the department and may be maintained by the Law enforcement officers agency.  Must be submitted within 10 days after an investigations is completed by the law enforcement officer who investigates a motor vehicle that: ◦ Resulted in death ◦ Personal injury ◦ s (1) Hit & Run ◦ s DUI ◦ Rendered a Vehicle inoperable ◦ Involved a Commercial Motor Vehicle

FMCSA:  any truck with a GVWR/GVCWR greater than 10,000 lbs eligible to be classified as a CMV.  a motor vehicle designed to transport 9 or more people (including the driver’s seat)

Florida traffic statutes  Has a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more;  Is designed to transport more than 15 persons, including the driver; or  Is transporting hazardous materials and is required to be placarded.  A vehicle that occasionally transports personal property to and from a closed-course motorsport facility, as defined in s (1)(a), is not a commercial motor vehicle if the use is not for profit and corporate sponsorship is not involved.

1 Vehicle 10,000 lbs. or less Placarded for Hazardous Materials 2 Single-Unit Truck (2-axle and GVWR more than 10,000 lbs. (4.536 kg) 3 Single-Unit Truck (3 or more axles) 4 Truck Pulling Trailer(s) 5 Truck Tractor (bobtail) 6 Truck Tractor/Semi-Trailer 7 Truck Tractor/Double Truck 8 Tractor/Triple 9 Truck more than 10,000 lbs. 1. If not a Hit and Run owner information is required. (“Same as Driver” is not acceptable) 2. A Parked Car cannot have a driver 3. If a person has a first name, they must have a last name 4. For a Non Motorist these are required fields (most, but not all, vendor applications already require this): ◦ Non Motorist Location At Time of Crash ◦ Action Prior to Crash

5. When “Work Zone Related” is “Yes,” these are required fields (most, but not all, vendor applications already require this):  Crash in Work Zone  Type of Work Zone  Workers in Work Zone  Law Enforcement in Work Zone ◦ (Helpful Hint: Ask your vendor if the Department Name and Department Type could be prefilled, rather than requiring the officer to do this for each crash report.)

1) Duplicate Crash Numbers 2) No HSMV Number 3) Illegible Crash Report 4) A Parked Car cannot have a driver

Faster access to crash data on FIRESportal.com Improved data uniformity Timeliness will increase Revenue Sharing Cost savings by reducing office and postal expenses Reduction in common reporting errors including empty data fields and legibility.
