Monday, April 1 st Entry Task Think of one thing that could be done to make your mouse trap car go a further distance than it already goes Think of one thing that could be done to make your mouse trap car go faster than it already goes Schedule: MTC in class fix Homework MTC written final is on Friday- it is basically your unit final Objective: I can make final touches on my mouse trap car to make it either the fastest, go the furthest distance, or the most creative Please Have on Desk: Rube Goldberg Mouse Trap Car

Tuesday, April 2 nd Entry Task Create a data table for your mouse trap car run. You need to include the following in your data table: Distance Time Trial 1, 2 and 3 Speed Average distance Average time Average speed Schedule: MTC Run Homework: MTC written test Friday- (it’s your unit final!) Objective: I can calculate the speed of my mousetrap car Please Have on Desk: Mouse Trap Car

Wednesday, April 3 rd Entry Task Look around the room. List 5 items that are simple machines. Explain what simple machine they are and explain how they work. Schedule: Rube Goldberg Objective: I can identify simple machines and explain their uses Homework Read/RSG 14.3 MTC written test Friday- (it’s your unit final!)

Definition Rube Goldberg: A comically involved, complicated invention, laboriously contrived to perform a simple operation –Webster’s New Word Dictionary

Open window (A) and fly kite (B). String (C) lifts small door (D) allowing moths (E) to escape and eat red flannel shirt (F). As weight of shirt becomes less, shoe (G) steps on switch (H) which heats electric iron (I) and burns hole in pants (J). Smoke (K) enters hole in tree (L), smoking out opossum (M) which jumps into basket (N), pulling rope (O) and lifting cage (P), allowing woodpecker (Q) to chew wood from pencil (R), exposing lead. Emergency knife (S) is always handy in case opossum or the woodpecker gets sick and can't work.

Passing man (A) slips on banana peel (B) causing him to fall on rake (C). As handle of rake rises it throws horseshoe (D) onto rope (E) which sags, thereby tilting sprinkling can (F). Water (G) saturates mop (H). Pickle terrier (I) thinks it is raining, gets up to run into house and upsets sign (J) throwing it against non-tipping cigar ash receiver (K) which causes it to swing back and forth and swish the mop against window pane, wiping it clean. If man breaks his neck by fall move away before cop arrives.

Thursday, April 4 th Entry Task List three household items for each of the following simple machines. Lever, wheel and axel, pulley, inclined plane, wedge, screw. Schedule: Your Own Rube Goldberg Homework: Complete Rube Goldberg Contraption Be ready for a unit final relating information from this unit to your mousetrap car- it is tomorrow! Objective: I can create my own Rube Goldberg simple machine contraption Please have on desk: 14.3 RSG

Rube Goldberg You will create a Rube Goldberg contraption for accomplishing a simple task. 1.Decide on the task to complete. 2.Your contraption must have 20 steps 3.You must include at least 3 of each of the six simple machines (there are 3 pulleys, 3 inclined planes, etc.) 4.You must label each simple machine on your drawing. 5.Using words you are going to “explain” how the steps work together to get to the end (first the cat runs up the board (inclined plane) which makes it fall down (lever) and push up the ball…)

As you sit on pneumatic cushion (A), you force air through a tube (B) which starts ice boat (C), causing lighted cigar butt (D) to explode balloon (E). Dictator (F), hearing loud report, thinks he's been shot and falls over backward on bulb (G), snapping picture!

Friday, April 5 th Entry Task Get your car and have it on your desk if you would like for it to be in the running for most creative. We will be voting on the most creative mouse trap car. You will vote for the two cars that you think are the most creative. You cannot vote for your own car!!! Schedule: MTC written analysis Homework: Take home your mousetrap car. Objective: I can explain concepts of motion and forces and relate them to my mousetrap car Please have on desk: Mouse Trap Car
