Creating a Study Space A good study environment has the following:  A quiet, flat, and organize place.  It needs to be a place away from distractions.  There needs to be enough light.  You should open your window for fresh air.  Have a comfortable chair, but not to comfortable.  Make sure you know where all the supplies are.  It should be warm but not burning hot, or freezing cold.

Everybody has different priorities depending on their hobbies. We will learn what priorities are using a jar…

How Can a Jar Help Us Understand Priorities?

You know how time passes quickly? Well it’s the same with a jar, when your filling up a jar it fills up fast. We’re going to fill this jar up with rocks... The rocks represent the things that you need to do or else there will be consequences. Some “rocks” are: - Sleeping - Eating - Doing homework - Going to the bathroom The jar may look full…

But it isn’t… There’s still room for pebbles. The pebbles stand for the things that you would like to do but there aren’t major consequences if you don’t do it. Examples: -Hobbies -Sports The jar is pretty much full but there is still room…

…for a lot of water. The water stands for the things that you would like to do, but if you don’t know big deal. Examples: -video games -TV -having play dates

So why did I just tell you all this? If you put the water in first everything would have overflowed. So if did all the “water” and “pebble” priorities first, you would have ended up with no time to do your “rock” priorities. What is the Point?

Directions: Choose the answer that fits you the best. 1.When you don’t have any homework what do you do? A. Play on the computer and ignore that your project is due the day after tomorrow and a test on the same day. B. Study a little, do a little of your project. Then, YEAH!!! TV time. C. Study a lot for a head start, and doing a lot of your project so you don’t have to be overwhelmed with trying to finish your project. 2.When you do your homework what do you do? A. I take a break around every 3 minutes and take a 20 minute break. B. I work for thirty minutes and I take a 10 minute break. C. I work for around and hour and then I take a 5 minute brake. 3.When do you do your projects? A. I do my project one the day before it is due. B. I do it the day I get it but forget about it until the teacher reminds me. C. I do my project one the day I get it and do it until it is finished.

Time Management We all like to do “water” priorities, but we know we can’t always do it. You have to learn how to balance your time wisely so you can finish your “rock” priorities faster, and then you can do more “water” and “pebble” priorities. If you do your homework for 5 minutes and then take a 30 minute brake, you won’t have enough time to do your “pebble” or “water” priorities.
