Ephesians 4:5

 From Latin: TESTAMENTUM = A will  Greek: DIATHEKE – “will” or “covenant”  Old Testament = covenant through Moses  New Testament = covenant through Christ

 The old covenant was fulfilled  Jeremiah 31:31 – “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.

 “For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion sought for a second…When He said, ‘A new covenant,’ He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear.”

 “…for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.”

 “Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord….”

 …having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross….”

 Hebrews 7:11-12 – Now if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood…what further need was there for another priest….For when the priesthood is changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law also.”

 Strong covenant replaced a weaker covenant  Law could make nothing perfect  Jesus guarantee of a better covenant  Holds His priesthood eternally  Our high priest is holy, innocent, undefiled, exalted above the heavens….

 Is by faith, not works  Galatians 2:16 – “…nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.”

 “…knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin.”

 …and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood—

 …being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus….”

 “…or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.”

 “For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves of free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.”
