DID You Know Young drivers ages years old are especially vulnerable to death and injury on our roadways- traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers in America Mile for mile, teenagers are involved in three times as many fatal crashes as all other drivers Among 15 to 20 year old drivers involved in fatal crashes in 2006, 31 percent of the drivers who were killed had been drinking and 77 percent of these drivers were unrestrained (no seatbelt) For the year of 2007 in WV 32 fatalities occurred of drivers under the age of 21 In 2005, 49 traffic fatalities in WV occurred involving drivers aged 16-20, among these young drivers 24% had a BAC of.08 or higher
