Course Introduction English 12 Regents English 12 is a course designed for students who plan on pursuing their academic education beyond high school. There is no Regents examination for 12R, but the academic demands are rigorous and mimic that of a college freshman style course; writing, reading and participation based. There are other courses offered to 12th grade students who are unable to meet the demands of English 12R or have a different career goal than those who plan on attending a post-secondary school.
Course Outline 1. Literature: Texts that may be covered but not limited to: The Catcher in the Rye The Things They Carried Oedipus Rex Beowulf The Kite Runner Shakespeare Independent Reading Others 2. Short Stories: A study of several short pieces, from 50 Great Short Stories. 3. Poetry: A survey of British and American poetry.
4. Film Study : A look at how film imitates life and the connections to literature. Films that may be covered but not limited to: Great Santini American Graffiti Forest Gump Rebel without a Cause Who Shot John LennonOn Golden Pond With HonorsKramer vs. Kramer Dead Poets Society 5.Writing: College application essay Literary Analysis Comparison/Contrast Argumentative Memoir & Narrative Research Project 6. Speaking: In class discussions, lessons on how to speak in front of an audience or group, and present a topic of interest using speaking skills and media.
