"I believe that IB was totally worth all of the time and effort. From IB I have not only learned all of the material I am now covering in first year university (first year has been mostly review); I have also learned how to assert myself in other extracurricular activities (such as volunteering at a nursing home), how to properly study before an exam, and how to easily learn new material. Juggling a varsity sport and school is extremely hard in university, but I was able to have 2 years of practising that while juggling IB and swimming in high school. Although there is still a lot of work involved, IB has made university so much easier! Studying and learning advanced university material while in high school could not be any better preparation for university. I am able to feel relaxed and calm, knowing that I am extremely prepared for all subject areas. I am confident with every subject and because I have my IB experience behind me, I know that I am capable of achieving anything I set my mind to." -BC (class of 2010) "I believe that IB was totally worth all of the time and effort. "IB has had a great impact on my transition to university. The writing skills that IB holds you to are the standards expected at the university level, but those skills are not re-taught. I have many classmates who are failing because they can't handle multiple choice tests, don't know how to study or take notes, and don't understand the concept of a thesis statement. Essentially, academic transition was almost non-existent. I struggled much more with the move to residence life than university academia. The skills IB instills are pertinent across university paths too. I'm in film production, which is certainly not taught in IB, but all of the academic skills still apply; no one in university is exempt from writing essays, tests, multiple choice questions, time management skills, scientific procedure, bibliographies, academic honesty, research, deadlines, etc... Those who can't do even one of the above are pretty much doomed. IB has also taught me how to have professional friendships with my teachers, professors and TAs. Obviously, at the university level, I'm not as close with them as with teachers I had for two and three years in high school. However, knowing how to problem solve and approach your professors for help and guidance is a huge asset. IB also got me 18 transfer credits, 3-6 classes I don't have to worry about (or pay for!). And if anyone is worried about CAS, volunteering for Service hours last year led to a fantastic summer job at the museum! - KM (class of 2009)

I love university and am doing very well. In case you would like to encourage IB students, I can say I owe it to IB for much of my success. I see many people who really do not know how to study properly which is a skill I was forced to develop in IB. On top of this, the amount of material I was tested on in December didn't feel like much at all. My chemistry class was almost completely a review, and some of biology was as well. To any IB Bio students who are concerned about not taking a physics course in university without any high school background in the subject, don”t worry! I was very nervous about taking physics, but worked hard and ended up recieving a higher mark in physics than in bio! - JB (Class of 2011)
