Student Behaviors I expect you to do your best to understand and speak French in class. I expect that you will work outside of class every day and try and use French as much as possible in your home and at school. This means using the online aids. I expect that you will come prepared for class, take notes, participate, and not distract others. I expect you to make-up work if you are absent, or better yet, don’t be absent. I expect that you will respect the teacher, clean up after yourself, and respect others.

How will we track these behaviors? Name on the board = Lose 5 points. You have 100 points per term = O utstanding = S atisfactory = N eeds improvement 0-60 = U nsatisfactory CITIZENSHIP GRADE & 5% OF TERM GRADE

Why do I take the time? You need to feel safe, and you should treat everyone kindly. When people are rude or mean, it is hard to feel happy and safe. We speak French because our goal is to learn French. That won’t happen if we are silent all the time. If you know how to say it in French, say it in French. I also think taking care of the classroom and each other is a sign of respect, and it makes my job easier. You want a happy teacher.

Grades Turn your stuff in on time. Do it late, don’t expect full credit. Minus 10% each class period. Quizzes can be retaken, but Exams can NOT. Exams = 20% of grade. Quizzes = 50%. If you have an “F” you need to make it up right away. You just need to get 80% on ALL your quizzes to pass French. Homework = 25% of grade

Extra Credit? Yes Cultural “show and tells”  Video and music clips  Current events  Make French food  Share French stuff you have  Pictures  Dance, sing, art, etc. Other occasional assignments when noted on your homework tracker.

And look at the number of speakers compared to the other world languages

BRING STUFF We need supplies: Kleenex, dry erase markers, and erasers, pens, or pencils, and notebook paper. We have parties. Bring food, paper products, or whatever. BOTH ARE EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES! 20 points per item.

Grading Grades are based on the accumulation of points by category. Points are based on:  Class participation (effort) 5%  Homework 25%  Exams 20%  Quizzes 50% Grades are posted on Skyward. Our Grading Scale % = A 90-94%= A %= B % = B 80-84%= B %= C % = C 70-74%= C- Below 70% = F/I Categories include: quizzes (50%), exams (20%), assignments (15%) and homework (15%).

My Pledge to Students I will trust you until you give me reason to do otherwise. I will respect you and work with you to solve problems. I will promptly correct and offer feedback on your work. I will work with you to meet learning goals. I will offer extra help and alternative assessments should you require them.

What is Word Champ? Word Champ is a program that will help everyone learn French. Make sure you create an account with all of the specifications This will help you in French and test your knowledge

What website can you always go for help? The French website: You will be require to practice on it from time to time. There will be websites you will have to use on it. Readings found on the website will be the reading homework that will have to be done every day.

What to expect when learning Français You will be expected to do Homework every night! Failure is NOT an option! Practice, Practice, Practice Memorize words and phrases Have FUN! Bring materials to class every day Speak in as much Français as you can all of the time Learn, Grow, and prosper in the language of love (as they say)

Let’s have a great year! Ayons une bonne année!
