Positive degree Just the plain ol’ regular version of the adverb! Ex: The fish swims FAST. Ex: We talk OFTEN. *****Used to describe ONLY ONE action*****

Comparative degree Used to compare ONLY TWO actions!!! Ex: The eel swims faster than the fish. Ex: They talk more often than we do. Some adverbs are irregular and need “more” added in front of the word rather than adding ‘-er.’

Superlative degree Used when THREE OR MORE actions are being compared. Ex: The shark swims the FASTEST of the three. Ex: My cousins talk MOST OFTEN.

Practice Write the correct form of the adjective or adverb in parenthesis that completes each sentence below. 1. The dolphin is (playful) than that one. Answer: more playful 2.
