What is CPR?
Attempt to keep alive an unconscious casualty by simulating the actions of their lungs and heart 2 Rescue Breaths to 30 Chest Compressions Not intended to restart the heart, just to keep casualty alive until medical help arrives (so call 999 before starting) Of limited use in a wilderness situation due to lengthy response time for emergency services
When should I use CPR?
On an unconscious, non- breathing casualty
When should I NOT use CPR?
On a conscious casualty On a hypothermic casualty
Video: ‘No Hands’ CPR (2.32)
Summary: Open Airway Call for/get help 30 Chest Compressions 2 Rescue Breaths Repeat If more than 1 first aider, swap every 2 minutes (4 repetitions) Continue until: casualty recovers, medical help arrives or too exhausted to continue
