Presentation transcript:

Our current behaviors including the burning fossil fuels leads to: The Greenhouse Effect Global Warming Acid Rain Smog Species loss and other environmental and health problems. Can we change our ways?

How can we do to decrease our output of greenhouse gasses? Buy energy efficient appliances. Replace old light bulbs with energy efficient ones. Improve insulation in your home to reduce heat loss. Carpool, walk, bike or use public transportation. Drive a hybrid electric car or one that gets good mileage. Use alternative energy.

What alternatives to fossil fuels do we have? Solar Wind Hydroelectric Biofuels

Solar Power Solar power is produced by harnessing the sun’s energy to make electricity. –Solar panels containing photovoltaic cells are used to convert heat energy into electricity. How does solar power work?

Wind Power Wind Power is made when the kinetic energy of the wind is harnessed to generate electricity.

Hydroelectric The energy from moving water is used to generate electricity. –Hydroelectric dams are often constructed for this purpose. How does hydroelectric work?

Biofuels Biofuels are made from living organisms such as corn, soy and even algae. Ex: biodiesel, ethanol How are we using biofuels?

What else can be done to reduce our emissions? Alternative Energy News But will we make these changes?

It’s in your hands…
